From as long as I can remember, I was always creative. Always drawing, or trying to make something, from carving figures from candles to collages.
I was always drawn to music, books, movies and video games and have always considered myself to be a geek.
I specifically remember playing a lot of video games when I was younger (I still do). A game that had a huge influence on me was Doom (1993) The soundtrack featured songs influenced by heavy metal bands. The opening level had a track inspired by the band Slayer (Behind the Crooked Cross) which I really took too. I was roughly 9 years old at the time and I believe this planted the heavy metal seed in me early on. Not long after, my older brother would introduce me to the
Black Metal genre. My introduction to the heavy metal world went in at the deep end as such!
Some more years later, when I was about thirteen years old, I came across a TV series by Jonathan Ross called Japanorama going into detail about Japan and its culture. I was captivated by it all immediately, and even as a now geeky, nerdy young metal head, I was not prepared to see anime!
He showed some of the film Ghost in the Shell and Akira which was shown afterwards. Akira absolutely blew my mind and changed my life.
I would later seek out Ghost in The Shell, which is a philosophical, existential Sci Fi masterpiece. I still consider it to be my favourite film and a huge influence.
As such, I believe all my biggest interests and influences where instilled in me from an early age: Heavy Metal, Sci Fi, Japan and Anime.
While in college I discovered Photoshop and that would quickly integrate into my works, which before then were mostly Pen and Ink.
In recent years, I have upgraded to working on an IPAD Pro tablet, using the Procreate App, which I love!
Since 2020 I have been working as a full-time professional artist and the same year, I got approved to be a member of an arts collective group in my hometown of Fermoy. Co. Cork, called Blackwater Valley Makers where I display and sell my works. I also do weekly newsletter illustrations for a Canadian company.
Commissions also include Portraits, logos, graphic logos. (My Black Metal style logo is my own).
